Academic Training Overview
In addition to career training, Los Angeles Job Corps Center also provides academic training, including basic reading and math. Courses in independent living, employability skills, and career success skills are offered to help students transition into the workplace. We also have several academic programs to help our students achieve their full potential.

In addition to career training, Los Angeles Job Corps Center also provides academic training, including basic reading and math. Courses in independent living, employability skills, and career success skills are offered to help students transition into the workplace. We also have several academic programs to help our students achieve their full potential.
One of our top goals at Job Corps is to ensure that every student has his or her high school diploma or the equivalent prior to leaving the center. Students who don’t already have a high school diploma upon their arrival at are automatically enrolled into a high school diploma or equivalent program.
Students needing to learn English can enter an English Language Learning (ELL) program.
Tutoring programs are available in academics where students are tutored by instructors or by fellow students (Peer Student Tutors). Students interested in getting into a tutoring program may contact their instructors or the Academic Manager.
Advanced Career Training (ACT) is an advanced college-level program. Students in ACT get the benefit of continuing to live on campus while taking courses for a college degree. To qualify for the ACT program, a student must have:
- A high school diploma or the equivalent
- Completed at least one level of career technical training
- Recommendations from career technical training instructors and center staff
- No major disciplinary issues within 60 days of applying
- Above-average evaluation scores
